Keanu Reeves yo star in AKIRA the live action movie

Keanu Reeves may be getting ready to take a trip to New Manhattan, the setting for the American, live-action adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo's classic manga, Akira. The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop, claiming Reeves has been meeting with Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures and, while there's no offer, the Matrix star seems to be the current frontrunner for the lead for the movie.

To be directed by Albert Hughes, Akira was famously adapted as an anime film in 1988. Reeves would potentially play the role of Kaneda, a member of a biker gang in a cyberpunk dystopia.

Reeves will next appear in 47 Ronin, hitting theaters on November 21, 2012. He alsorecently revealed that he will return for a third Bill & Ted film at some point in the not-too-distant future.
