THR is reporting that Rescue Me actor Denis Leary is in final negotiations to join the cast of Columbia’s new Spider-Man movie.
According to the article, Leary would play the part of police captain George Stacy who is the father of Peter's/Spider-Man's (Andrew Garfield) love interest Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone).
In the comics, George Stacy was killed in a mishap during a battle between Spider-Man and Doc Ock, which eventually lead Gwen Stacy.
Spider-Man swings onto the screen in 3D on July 3, 2012. The new film will begin production in early December, directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios.
